Next to it is the F r e d e r i k s Ho s p i t a l , an old elegant building. In connexion with the hospital is the lying in hospital ( F o d s e l s s t i f l e l s e n ) with facade to Amaliegade (No. 23— 25) founded in 1785 by the Q u e e n J u l i a n e Ma r i e . A splendid view may be taken from this bridge of Ho l me n with its arsenals and workshops of the navy, the ironclads, and the old wooden line of battle ships, which are now used as barracks for the crews of the navy. Looking back is the straight line of Amalie gade closing at the statue and the colonade of Amalienborg, to the right Grenningen, St. Alban’s church and the old castle with its picturesque walls and moats, to the left Toldboden (the customs) and the great shipbuilding yard (on Refshaleoen, island) of Bu rm e i s t e r & Wa i n , and beyond is the roads with its shipping, the fort of »Trekroner«, and further away the Middleground-fort.
