T h e b u i l d i n g (architect V. Dahlerup) was opened in 1896. The main entrance is flanked by portrait statues of the sculptor H. V. Bissen (by V. Bissen) and the painter Wilh. Marstrand (by W. Runeberg). In the grounds in front of tlie building there are several works by Danish sculptors. T h e c o l l e c t i o n comprises: 1) Paintings and sculptures by Danish, Swedish and Norwegian artists, and also Italian, Spanish, older Netherland and German works of art. 2) Engravings, about 100,000 specimens copper-plate, engravings, wToodcuts and drawings. 3) Casts, antique and newer sculptural works. T h e p a l a c e is the property of Count Moltke Bregentved who resides here, and it is one of the most beautiful of the patrician palaces from the baroque period, (architect J. C. Krieger). T h e c o l l e c t i o n comprises some 150 pict- ures, mainly of the Duteh sohool from the 17th century. It was established about the middle of the 18th century, and contains, amongst otliers, excellent paintings by Rubens, Rembrandt, Hob­ bema, Ruisdael, Teniers Jun., A. v. Ostade, Corne­ lius Decker, P. Potter, v. d. Velde, and J. D. de Heem. Further a masterpiece by Nic. Poussin: "Eudamidas’ Testament”, and also pictures by Greuze, Mengs, Vouwerman, Cranach and others.
