The trip by railway is the quickest but the other two are the finest, especially that by the smart and com­ fortable Sound steamei’s. After a sail of half an hour along the wooded coast with its numerous village cottages past S k o v s h o v e d you reach Be l l e v u e . At the end of the long landing-pier stands the new St rand h o t e l and across the road (Strandvejen) Be l l e v u e Hot el . Going along the garden of Hotel Bellevue you arrive at Dyreha- ven and see on your right the K l a m p e n b o r g Ba d c a n - stal t (bathing establishment) (opened in 1845) with hotel, concert-hall, sea-baths etc., a favorite resort of Copen­ hageners and strangers. When you have taken a walk over the establishment a carriage must be hired in order to enable you to accomplish the proposed excursion in one day (vehicles are in attendance at the red gate leading into Dyrehaven). The excursion requires at least 10 hours, but gives a pretty fair picture of the nearest beauti­ ful neighbourhood of Copenhagen. From Klampenborg you drive along the F o r t un v e j . Before reaching the red gate you pass the V i a d u c t across the new K y s t b a n e (railway), which from this place runs along the coast as far as Helsingor (Elsinore). Its line of rail ean be seen through the forest, on Ihe right while you have the K l am ­ p e n b o r g St a t i on on the left. Along this splendid road shaded by old and mighty trees you continue to P i l e n a snug little foresters cabin with a restaurant (on the right). A little further on and you arrive at D y r e h a v s b a k k e n (an elevation) where from the 1st June to the 1st August a chequered life is met with. Mountebanks, magicians, strong men and other roving people then set up their stalls in this place side by side with merry-go-rounds, swings, singing girl pavilions and refreshment tents. Especially on Sundays and Midsummers eve (23. June) the Ba kk e n « is visited by a number of people. As the central point of Bakken must be mentioned Ki r s t e n Pi Is K i l d e (the fountain of Kirsten Pil), the healing power of which gave the first impulse to its fame. Following the
