The nightly places of amu­ sements are not numerous in Copenhagen. Besides the very popular dancing-places there is really only one public, place of this kind for the public of a more refined taste, the Pa- lain do danse on Vesterbroga- de w ith the adjacent restau­ ran t Pigalle. I t is conducted in the same way and is fre­ quented by the same public as establishments of this kind ' in -the large cities abroad. On account of very strict rules for the closing hours of caf6s and restaurants, a num ­ ber of night-clubs have sprung up during the later years. To get admision one

must bo a member, b u t a tou­ rist, w ith some acquaintan­ ces in Copenhagen will not have much difficulty in get­ ting a card of membership. Among the best, known of these clubs is the above mentioned Lorry-Club- in the establishment of Lorry on Fre- deriksberg, where the public is gay and informal and where everything still is kept stric t­ ly inside the lim its of decency. The Lorry-Club is a place, where the Danish character shows itself at its best. The entertainm ent hero is not on­ ly the dance. Soloists and sin­ gers give performances in the pauses.
