p o rtrait of Frederik VI. Of the old original summer-hou­ ses are kept the Chinese tea- pavilion on the isle and the Apis-temple (built 1794 after the draw ing of Nic. Abild- gaard), now serving as main- entrance to the zoological g a r­ den. The L ibrary-garden (Map 8) in front of the royal library, (see page 130) is a very beau­ tiful garden, an oasis in the middle of the busy life of the city, where one, unaffected by this, may find a cosy and snug resting-place in the open air at any time of the day. To the left of tbe shallow water-basin is a s ta ­ tue of the esthetic-philoso- pliic-religious author Seven Kierkegaard.

While Frederiksberg C ar­ den a t an early date was ope­ n e d to tbe public, Sondermar- ken for a long time was re­ s e r v e d for the royal family. From the first period with its inclination to romance are still kept the Norwegian hou­ se and the herm it-grotto. The herm it, nodding, when one entered the grotto, in the meantime, has disappeared long ago. In Sondermarken are the statue of the politician C. C. Ilall, by Villi. Bisson, and the memorial hill to the ones, who left home, erected and paid by the Danish-Americans, with sculptures by Anders Bundgaard.
