Besides these must be mentioned a. rare collec­ tion of old Persian m anu­ scripts brought home and col­ lected by the philologist Bas- mus Bask. The library con­ tain s 700,000 volumes and about the same amount of manuscripts. The State-Archives are in the Parliam ents Court to the left and are the central-orga­ nisation of all the archives belonging to the Danish S ta­ te. They consist of the Main- Archives and three country- archives in Copenhagen, Oden­

se and Viborg. The Main- archives contain all materials before t lie year 1559, besides the archives for the Central- Adm inistration. Documents going back to the year 1100 are to be found here. The Hydrographic Office by Esplanaden (route 3) was in ­ stituted in 1784 by royal letter. Tt lias published a complete collection of maps of the Danish, Faroe and Icelandic waters with descrip­ tions, based on systematic surveyings, begun in 1827 and continued ever since. About 5800 volumes of the Navy-Library are placed in these archives.
