' On the 28 Septbr 1803 the foundation stone to this handsome building was laid, and in it were deposited a *► plate of gold , a golden medal, arid two gold coins with a lajjn inscription: The dreadful fire in 1795 destroyed this Town-Hall, but King Christian the sev enth ordered a new one to lie erected for the benefit, and embellishment of this city. Frederick the Crown Prince of Denmark laid the foundation stone to this building on the 28 Septbr, 1805. In the year 1815 the building was finished, and on the 2 July of the same year after a solemn inauguration in the chaficl that adjoins it, all the offices under this establishment were delivered to the charge of the different directors. The chief entrance is towards Ny-Torv, and over it is the following inscription: „Mcd Lov sited man Land bygge.” „13y Laws must the country be supported.” and over the entrance to the prison which is united to the town Hall by a Corridor is the following: ,;For almeen Sikkerhed” . „For the security of the Public.”
