33 todons (1 species) from the countries by the river Plate (in the hall) presented by late Ur. Lausen. Singly the same species are to be found in museums at London, Paris, Madrid and at a couple of museums in Italy, but all the species are found together no where else in Europe. Noteworthy is the collection of Whales in the cellar of the museum. Unique for the museum is the col lection of prehistoric animals from Denmark, among others skele tons of aurochs (Bisons) and elks found in bogs (in the hall), the numerous bones from the kitchen-middens of the stone age (in No. 16), and the rare collection from Lund of extinct animals from the Brazilian bone caverns, beautiful rows of skulls with horns and the stuffed „Brugde“ (the largest fish now living) etc. From the museum to the left to Norregade (with tramcars to the left to Gl. Torv, to the right to Solvlorv and 0sterbro). At the corner of Norregade and St. Peder- strsede is St. Pe t r i Chu r c h (PI. a. G. 8) with a mag nificent spire towering to a height of 248 ft. from the ground (erected 1756— 57) from plan by Mr. Boye Junge, major in the fire brigade and carpenter to the court. Along the street runs an old churchyard-wall shaded by lime-trees. St. Petri church was a parish church as early as the 15th century. After the Reformation the church was closed and used as a cannon and bell foundry, but since 1585 it is used as a parish church for the German congregation. It was burnl down in 1728, but again con secrated in 1731 and suffered a great deal by the bom bardment in 1807. From Petri church back along Norre gade past x^o. 39, F o l k e t h e a t e r (PI. G. 8) to Norrevold- gade. To the right across the boulevard is the entrance to the botanical gardens (Botanisk Have PI. F. 9) admis sion see newspapers. B o t a n i s k Have was laid out on the territory of the old walls in 1871— 74, and the site is considered one of the finest in Europe. It is interesting by a number of magnificent conservatories of which the great palm-house (PI. d. E. 9) with its gallery under the ceiling is highly imposing. The aquarium contains a'number of rare water- plants. Towards Golhersgade, Plantphysiological laboratory (architect Herholdt). There are beautiful walks in the gar den, for instance to the observatory, and to the hills near 3
