Odense is the principal town of the island " of Funen and next to Copenhagen and Aar­ hus the largest town in Denmark. Depth of harbour 24,4 feet. Large manufactories of different kinds. About 52,400 inhabitants, with suburbs 65,000. Randers, at the head of the Randers Fjord on the East coast of North Jutland, about 18English miles from the Kattegat. Depth of harbour 18 feet. About 27,000 inha­ bitants, with suburbs 32,000. Rønne, on the island of Bornholm in the Baltic. 22,5 feet of water in the har­ bour. Daily .steamship connection with , Copenhagen. Export of local articles sucb as fire-bricks, granite, earthenware, clay, herrings. About 10,500 inhabitants. Svendborg is situated at theSouth coast of the island of Funen.’Depth of harbour 24,5 feet. Considerable shipping and ship­ building. About 14,400 inhabitants, with suburbs 17,000. Sonderborg, in the isle of Als (belongingj to Slesvig), Depth of harbour 72 feet. Daily steamship communication with Faa­ borg (Funen). About 10,500 inhabitants. About 6100 inhabitants. Holbæk is situated in Zealand at the Hol­ bæk Fjord, å branch of the Isefjord. Depth ,of harbour 18 feet. About 11,800 inhabi­ tants. Horsens is situated at the head of the bay of the same name on the East coast of Jutland. Depth of harbour 23 feet. Con­ siderable textile and other manufacturing. About’28,100 inhabitants. Kjerteminde, on the East coast of the island of Funen, at the „Store Belt“. Depth of haibour 15.5 feet. About 3.000 inhabitants. i. Kallundborg, on the North-West coast of the island o i Zealand. The town has about 42,800 inhabitants, with suburbs 52,000. Aarhus,* next to Copenhagen the largest town in Denmark, situated on the Kast coast of Jutland at the bay of Aarhus (Kattegat). The depth of the water is 24,5 feet in the Northern, 27 feet in theSouthim j,harbour. Considerable banking, exporting vand importing concerns. The town has i'about 76,000 inhabitants, with suburbs '83,000. Assens, on the West coast of the island of Eunen at the Lille Belt. Depth of harbour *23 teet. Daily ferry communication with i»'Aar8sund in South, Jutland. About 4800 ^inhabitants. - Esbjerg is situated on the West coast of Jutland, behind the island of Fano. State harbour (artificial), consisting partly i ‘of a dock basin, an outside harbour and ’a trafflc harbour. Depth of water athigh tide 28 feet. Regular steamship connec- - tion with Grimsby, Harwich, Antwerp, Dunkirk and Hamburg, of great import­ ance for export of Danish agricultural produces and fish. About 24,000 inhabi­ tants. Faaborg, on the South coast of the island of Funen. Depth ot harbour 20,5 feet. Daily toat communication with Sonderborg in South Jutland (island of Als). About 4700 inhabitants. Fredericia, at the entrance to the Lille Belt from the Kattegat. Junction for railways from North, South, East and ‘Wést. “Depth of new harbour 25 feet, old harbour 18,5 feet. Total length ,of piers in the commercial harbour 2378 féet. 2 pilots (for Frederikshavn, Kieler Fjord, Helsingør). Crane, lifting 8 tons, tdischarging capacity 40 tons an hour. Rails on both sides of the harbour. Elec­ tric light ashore and for use on board the ships. Annual fairs tor all Denmark (Dansk Købestævne) are held here.
