King Waldcmar and King Christopher granted to this seminary many privileges, and it Mas at Sordc that Saxo Grammaticus wrote his renowned history of Den mark. In the year 1580 in consequence of the refor mation , the abbey was secularized and ceded to the crown. It is indebted much to Ills Majesty King Frederick the second, and King Christian the fourth who granted to its support the revenues of the monastery of Saint Birgitta in Mariboc and Borglum in Jutland, but it has been greatly extended by the munificence of many indi viduals particularly by Baron Ludvig Holberg who be queathed by his will dated the 20th January 1748, his Barony for the extension of this seminary of learning. , The scholars educated here, arc limited to sixty four; they enjoy every comfort of a public school, and nrc instructed in Danish, Latin, Greek, French, German, English, Religion, Geography, History and Mathema- ticlis. The yearly payment for their support and education is about 20 Pounds Sterling. In the ancient church belonging to the Academy the following royal personages arc intcrcd.
