By a royal ordinance of His present Majesty it was directed that all Jews at a certain age should he confirmed in their own religion, for which purpose a room is pro­ vided, but where no service is performed. Their principal priest is a Rabbi, but there is also an assistant priest whose duty it is to instruct the children, nnd prepare them for confirmation. On the ground where the former Synagogue was erected is now built an Alms house for the relief of 38 indigent families, who are indebted to the benevolence of Mr.David Amscl Meyer, who bequeathed for their comfort 21,000 Danish Dollars (about 5000 Sterling) and where they not only enjoy tree residence, but when sick arc at­ tended by Dr. Trier, and arc supplied with medicine free of expense.
