Mr. Lorentzen produced a painting of the battle, which for beauty and historical cor rectness,* will hold a distinguished rank in the Danish school; he chose the moment of Com modore Fischer’s shifting his broad pendant oh board the Holstein. It was purchased by the Prince Royal, for 1200 dollars ; and Mr. De Coninck bespoke a copy. The painter after wards drew a companion for it ; representing the situation of both fleets, when two British line of battle ships ran foul of each other, and in that situation got aground, where they were raked by red hot balls from the battery of the Three Crowns, on which account Lord Nelson sent us the flag of truce. Mr. Sander wrote a poem on the battle, which Mi*. Lahde ornamented with an engraving. This little production was sold at two shillings, and the receipts appropriated by these Gen- * Mr. Clements has engraved it. This Gentleman has given a fine specimen of his talents in the engravingof Ossian, dedicated to his Excellency Hugh Elliot, Esq. His Bri tannic Majesty’s then Ambassador at the Court of Den mark. He also, while in London, engraved the death of the American General Montgomery.
