South o f thc resort thc well “ Helenekilde” , formerly credited with healing powcrs, to which people came from afar. The forest Tisvilde Hegn lies west o f the town Tisvilde, and covers 1430 hektar. It is actually an i8th century reafforestation project, laid out on shifting sand. Ncar the plantation a monument o f King Frederik IV and King Christian VI, during whose reigns the plantation has been laid out. The plantation consists of firs, beeches and oak trecs. In the north- western corner the “ Troldeskov” (ghost wood), declared a nature reserve in 1906. South o f the forest the ruins o f Asserbo monastery and a memorial stone for King Frederik VII. To thc southeast the beautiful Tibirke Bakker (Tibirke Hiils). The highest point in thc forest is “ Fro- bakken” , named for thc pagan norse god Frej. Through Tisvildc to Asserbo.
