rnarket), with a renaissance fountain. On the king’s birthday and similar official occasions the fountain spouts golden apples into the air. From here Nørregade leads to the Domkirke, (“ Vor Frue Kirke” ), the cathedral, called “ Our Lady’s Church). This church was originally built around the ycar 1200, and was thus the oldest church o f the town. After the great fire o f 1728, and again after the bombardement o f 1807 the church was, in the years 1811-1829, rebuilt in its present form. In front o f the cathedral are statues o f Moses and David, and above the columns o f the main cntrance a relief by Thorvaldsen, “ The entrance o f Christ into Jerusalem” . The interior decoration is exclu- sively made by Thorvaldsen. Here we find his Christ and the twelve disciples, the font, carried by a kneeling angel in front o f the altar; In the aisles different reliefs. All Danish bishops are consecrated here. In front of the cathedral, on the Bispetorvet, (bishop’s rnarket) a monu­ ment o f the reformation in Denmark. To the north the University, founded by King Christian I in 1479. The university was also ravaged by fires and the bombardement. The present premiscs are built by Malling in 1831-36. In the hall historical paintings, in the hall of tapestries genuine tapestries from Flandcrs from the I7th century. The only remnant o f the ancicnt catholic bishop’s seat in the western court- yard o f the university. On the right in Fiolstræde the University Library, (Universitetsbiblioteket). At the corner o f Nørregade and Skt. Pederstræde the Saint Peter’s Cliurch, (Skt. Petri Kirke), from ca. 1450. King Frederik II gave in 1574 the church to the German colony in Copenhagen. The tower, from 1756, is 78 metres high. Altar-piece by I. L. Lund, (1816), and monuments of bishop Mynster and Frederikke Brun in the beautiful garden. Continuing through Krystalgade and passing by the Zoologisk Museum, (zoological museum), (see page 37), to Købmagergade. At the corner the Regensen, built by King Christian IV in 1623 as a students’ home, (with free lodging and board). Opposite the Regensen Rundetårn (the Round Tower), also built by King Christian IV in 1637-42, originally planned as tower to the Trinity Church (Trinitatis Kirke).’(Admittance, page 000). The tower is 36 m high and 15 metres wide. On'the top an observatory and a collection o f astronoinical instruments. A spiral walk, 209 metres long, leads to the platform, from which one gets a splendid view over the gabled roofs of the inner town. Southwards, the Købmagergade leads to Amagertorv with the “ stork fountain” , (Storkespringvandet). Behind the fountain Højbro Plads, (Højbro square) with an equestrian statue o f bishop Absalon,
