The zoo shelters 2500 animals o f 650 different species, among these such rarities as an ocapi, walrusses, and a herd o f giraffes. Admittance: kr. 1,50, children 25 øre. Admittance to the tower 25 ore by the staircase, 50 øre by the elevator.

Just off the main station the large City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) is situated. This square is the traffic centre of the town, and is dominated by the City Hall, (Rådhus), built 1894-1905 by professor Nyrop in renaissance style. The tower, 105 metres high, proffers a splendid view o f the town. Above the main entrance the gilded statue o f the founder o f the town, bishop Absalon. In the main budding the diffe­ rent municipal offices and the great and beautiful hall, (Rådhushallen, 1448 m2), used for official celebrations. In the hall are statues o f the architect professor Nyrop, the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, on whom the freedom o f the city had been bestowed, and the writer H. C. An­ dersen. In the top floor the Museum o f the city of Copenhagen, (Københavns Bymuseum). (Admittance, see page 000). From here a staircase leads to the tower with the electrical clock and the belis play- ing every quarter o f an hour. Behind the main budding is a beautiful courtyard with the “ bear fountain” (Bjørnespringvandet) by Bindes­ bøll and Joakim Skovgaard. Along Vestre Boulevard the City Hall Garden, (Rådhushaven). In front o f this the “ dragon fountain” , by Bindesbøll and Joakim Skov­ gaard, a gift from the Danish artists. Beside the tower a 20 metre high column with two “ lur-blowers” . (The “ lur” is a Scandinavian, prehistoric trumpet). From the Rådhusplads a main thoroughfare leads to Kongens N y­ torv, the socalled Stroll (“ Strøget” ), consisting of several streets in continuation o f one another. On the Nytorv (new market), the Dom­ huset, (courts o f justice), a former city hall, in empire style. The main entrance has 6 Ionic columns, and also the hall inside is flanked by columns.
