G'lmmellorv (the old square) with the fountain.
From Gammeltorv through Norregade one sees Vor Frue Kirke, (the church of Our La dy) w ith the beautiful square tower, on top of which shines a golden cross, and opposite the church one catches a glimpse of the old characte ristic Bishops Palace (see Chapter 9). Nytorv (the new square) is embellished by the former town-hall, built in the Greek- Roman style, with a main-en trance of six Jonian columns under a frontispiece (see Chapter 10). We continue our journey down the promenade through the short
to the left and Nytorv to the right. On the corner of Nytorv in the square building with the tower is a branch office of Kobenhavvs llundclsbavlc (see Chapter H). # Gammeltorv (the old squa re) is the oldest square in the city with m arket in the mor ning of poultry, eggs and chee se. In the middle of the squa re is a fountain, built by Christian IV, where golden apples are dancing on the jets of water on the kings b irth day, greatly admired by the youngsters. In the building, No. 10—12, is on the first floor the well known Krdgs restau ran t (see Chapter 14).
