The Town-Hull of Copenhagen.

Map 1. The Town-Hall of Copenhagen (route 1) was inaugurated in 1905, being the fifth in the number of Copenhagen town-halls and b uilt by the architect, professor Marlin Nyrop. This monumental buil­ ding, a t tlie same time civic plain and festive, stands as one of the most beautiful ex­ amples of the modern national a rt of building. Out of old Danish an d lta lia n motives Ny­ rop with ingenious ability lias created an entire new Danish style and in the building has been used only the natural building materials of the coun­ tr y : clay, granite and chalk-

stone. The finest artists of the country have helped with the details and the most beau­ tiful effect everywhere, has been the result. The costs amounted to (> million K roner and the building holds (100 rooms. The tower of the Town-Hall is 105,6 metres high. 300 steps lead to the stone-balconies of the tower. The tones of the bells (h-e-g-a-h) sound every quarter and the »watchraan’s song« a t 12 and 6 o’cl. is composed by P. E. Lange-Miil- ler. Connected with the Town- hall towards the boulevard is
