The lied in 1875 by the brewer J. C. Jacobsen, forming the s ta r ting point for the Carlsberg Foundation (see above), in stituted in 1876 and being the Department A. of the Founda tion. The board of directors consists of three n atural scien tists of the management of the Foundation and one or two membres, versed in the science of brewing. The founder of the Carls berg Laboratory lias plainly stated his intention with the object and ways of working of the laboratory by sa y in g : »No theoretical or practical result of work of the in sti tution must be kept seeret«.
